Coronavirus is not news anymore. It has been some time since we’ve been dealing with the unseen enemy of mankind and each time, we think we’ve defeated it. It mutates. Such is a mutation of the coronavirus that is called omicron.
Omicron is much more contagious now and as parents, it’s your biggest worry that your kids might get it. There are a few things you can do to make your children aware and ready to combat the omicron variant.
Below are some ways parents can prevent young children from omicron:
Make sure adults surrounding your kids are vaccinated If you have a get-together or your kid is going to be surrounded by people for any reason, it’s less risky if all the adults around them are masked, vaccinated and boosted. If they go to daycare, make sure that all the employees are vaccinated, boosted and masked.
1. Make them wear masks even when outside
With kids going back to school, it’s important to make sure that they’re masked in classes and the playground. This will lower the risk of them contracting the disease.
However, since kids under 2 are not recommended to wear a mask because of the risk of suffocation, you should try social distancing for them.
2. Avoid Large Crowds
Avoiding large crowds can protect your kids better. Avoid any place that has lots of people, especially if it’s indoors. Postpone your travel plans to ensure the safety of your kids. This will lower the chances of your kid being in contact with the virus and contracting it.
3. Get them tested
To provide your kid better care it’s important to know if they’ve already contracted the virus. Kids get many colds and it’s often difficult to know if it’s the virus.
Getting them tested will help you understand how to care for them and your pediatrician will be able to provide appropriate meds. Make sure the testing site is safe by analyzing its ventilation and social distancing. Your pediatrician’s office should also be able to test.
4. Get them vaccinated when they’re the appropriate age
The authorization for the vaccine is forever changing and the vaccine may be available for younger children in the coming days. Get your kids vaccinated when it gets available for their age. Vaccinating them will protect your kids, lower your anxiety, and make sure your kids are less likely to spread the disease.
5. Stay calm
Children are sensitive and can get even more scared if their parents are scared.
Try to stay calm and positive. Omicron is less deadly and with adequate care, your kid will be back to normal in no time. Staying positive and treating omicron as any other cold will make your kid comfortable and more able to fight the disease.
